McKing Consulting Corporation is seeking a public health specialist to collaborate with CDC's Maternal, Infant, and Toddler Nutrition Team in implementing the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity's (DNPAO) strategic activities to enhance optimal nutrition in the first 1,000 days (pregnancy through 24 months of age).

The ideal candidate will provide subject matter expertise to advance optimal nutrition in the first 1,000 days, focusing on nutrition security, equity, and cultural competency. They will also develop and review documents, reports, and other materials to ensure equity and cultural competency are embedded.

The Public Health Specialist will:

  • Provide expertise and subject matter knowledge in nutrition security, with a focus on nutrition during the first 1,000 days.
  • Develop and review documents, reports, and other materials to ensure equity and cultural competency are embedded.
  • Use knowledge of maternal and child nutrition science to provide subject matter expertise on briefing documents, publications, and presentations.
  • Coordinate the provision of indicators on maternal, infant, and toddler nutrition for release in reports, interactive data websites, or other consumer-friendly avenues.
  • Provide knowledge and content expertise on infant and young child feeding in emergencies.
  • Perform systematic reviews of scientific literature on topics related to maternal, infant, and young child nutrition and associated health outcomes.
  • Update and lead the development of surveillance reports and communications materials as needed.
  • Assist in responding to public inquiries about maternal, infant, and toddler nutrition topics.
  • Prepare, review, and develop briefing documents, publications, and presentations for key partners.
  • Review and provide subject matter expertise, suggested edits, and recommendations on documents related to maternal and young child nutrition submitted from Federal partners for CDC input.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience


Master's degree in human nutrition, dietetics, public health, epidemiology, behavioral science, nursing, or a related public health discipline.


Experience working in a research or public health setting focused on maternal and child nutrition.


Proven verbal, written, listening, and presentation skills.


Fluency in English language.

The ideal candidate will also have the following:


Registered Dietitian, experience working as a nutritionist (e.g., in a WIC clinic or with a WIC Program), or have a certificate in Maternal Child Health/Nutrition.


Experience in behavioral, environmental, policy aspects of breastfeeding support, and addressing equity in maternal, infant, and toddler nutrition.


Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics software (especially MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).


Ability to work independently (self-motivated) under a general scope of program objectives and duties of the position.


Strong written and oral presentation skills.


Fluency in another language, such as Spanish (not required).
