Leidos seeks an experienced Chief Engineer with a Secret clearance to lead the development, deployment, and sustainment of weapon systems for the Department of Defense.

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and scientists in a research and development environment. They will guide the team to integrate directed energy (DE) technologies into fully capable weapon systems for the United States Air Force and other customers.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the success of engineering development programs by providing senior technical leadership and product vision in system architectures, trade studies, issue prevention, identification, and resolution.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to implement best practices and continuous improvement activities.
  • Serve as the principal engineering subject matter expert interfacing with senior customer counterparts, internal engineering leadership, executives, program managers, and partners.
  • Provide expertise in weapon systems design, integration, testing, and operations.
  • Support the development of systems engineering requirements for components, subsystems, and systems.
  • Exercise leadership through inclusion, collaboration, and mentorship of the technical workforce.

This position requires experience with large-scale engineering projects, technical assessments, trade studies, and analysis of alternatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data analytics, algorithms, and modeling to solve complex operational challenges. Excellent communication and management skills are also essential for success in this role.

About Our Team

The Directed Energy team at Leidos is comprised of approximately 100 scientists, engineers, technicians, drafters, fabricators, and support staff with diverse backgrounds in physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, electromagnetics, lasers, and high-power microwaves.

Requirements
  • Active Secret DoD clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
  • BS in Engineering, Science, or Technology or related technical area and 15+ years of total experience.
  • Prior experience on fielded systems for the US Department of Defense, preferably with the US Air Force.
  • Experience with developmental testing and evaluation, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and lifecycle management.
  • Masters degree preferred.
Salary

$126,100 - $227,950 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
