Job Summary

This position is responsible for simulating patients for radiation treatment planning and providing radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts using radiation therapy equipment.
  • Administer contrast material if indicated; monitor patient closely. Administer medical treatment to patient having adverse reaction to contrast and notify doctor.
  • Review prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification; validate actual treatment dosages delivered during each session.
  • Prepare and construct equipment such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices, including electron blocks. Check radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Observe clinical progress of radiation oncology patient. Use clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications. Observe and reassure patients during treatment, report unusual reaction, halt treatment if unexpected adverse reactions occur.
  • Educate, prepare, and reassure patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical assistance, and reinforcing physician's advice regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care.
  • Prepare treatment room and equipment and position patients for treatment in a timely manner with accuracy according to prescription without direct supervision.
  • Acquire proper imaging as directed by physician (port films and conebeam CT (CBCT/IGRT)).
  • Enter data into computer and set controls to operate, adjust equipment, regulate dosage, and enter pertinent paperwork into the Mosaiq chart. Maintain patient medical records, reports, and files, including radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient reactions. Prepare accurate billing records for procedures.
Requirements
  • Position contingent upon successful completion of a certification in radiation therapy within 90 days of hire.
  • Requires demonstrated knowledge of radiation therapy procedures, treatment plans, and delivery, radiation oncology, and radiation protection.
  • Must be board-eligible with board certification within 90 days of program graduation or 90 days of hire.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for Radiation Therapy.
  • BLS CPR certification required.

This position is located at Corewell Health's Royal Oak Hospital, W 13 Mile Road, Royal Oak.
