Effective adverse event reporting is crucial for identifying risks and enhancing safety. This role is responsible for overseeing the adverse event reporting system, providing daily support for the detection, processing, and reporting of adverse events (AEs). You will initiate, coordinate, and manage strategic risk reduction initiatives across the HMH Enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
A typical day as a Clinical Risk and Loss Prevention Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Partnering with Executive, Regional, Local, Nursing, and Clinical Leadership to cultivate a sustainable risk prevention culture aimed at minimizing harm to patients and team members.
- Working alongside Regional and local Campus Risk Management and Quality/Safety leaders to foster a safety culture that encourages non-punitive reporting of adverse safety events.
- Continuously enhancing the Hackensack Meridian Health Adverse Event Reporting platform to meet stakeholder needs, improve efficiency, and provide high-quality information.
- Utilizing the adverse event reporting platform to help leaders comprehend harm within their business units.
- Leading the governance framework to engage stakeholders in developing a reporting platform that meets the requirements of Enterprise Risk Management, Patient Safety and Quality, and Patient Experience.
- Collaborating with data analytics to create de-identified dashboards for trend analysis.
- Presenting findings at network and campus committees to promote awareness of system learning derived from reporting.
- Integrating machine learning, artificial intelligence, and automation into the current system while monitoring for unintended consequences and ensuring quality assurance.
- Identifying and addressing barriers to reporting, developing solutions, and fostering stakeholder involvement to enhance the overall reporting culture.
- Collaborating with site risk, patient safety/quality, and human resources leadership to address adverse events and grievances, utilizing analytical skills to recommend disposition strategies.
- Encouraging a safety culture where reporting is valued and monitoring the use of the Onelink adverse event reporting system, implementing interventions as necessary.
- Overseeing risk management software to promote risk mitigation and improve safety culture across the network.
- Providing timely reports to senior leadership regarding site activities.
- Creating and implementing programs to nurture a safe environment for patients, visitors, team members, and other stakeholders.
- Conducting statistical analyses for review by relevant committees as needed.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to optimize workflows for event reporting and analysis.
- Designing educational and training initiatives for the platform to drive clinical and operational risk reduction.
- Recommending and implementing enterprise-wide clinical risk guidelines and standards.
- Developing Key Performance Indicators and Dashboards for Clinical Risk & Loss Prevention.
- Providing litigation support to the legal team and external counsel.
- Serving as a senior clinical risk advisor to the organization.
- Leading or co-leading the Patient Safety Organization(s) for HMH.
- Performing other duties and projects as assigned.
- Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the healthcare sector.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Healthcare Risk Management or Patient Safety.
- Strong understanding of Project Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Process Review, Root Cause Analysis, Emergency Management, and Regulatory Compliance.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business Management, or a related health field.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
- Risk Management Certification.
