Holbrook Asphalt LLC is seeking a highly experienced Technical Director to lead our research and development efforts in asphalt preservation materials. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving innovation and growth in our manufacturing test technologies portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in project management of key initiatives supporting manufacturing test technologies.
- Oversee formula cost optimization and raw material qualification programs without sacrificing quality.
- Identify and resource key technical relationships necessary to support our technical portfolio.
- Support customer complaint investigations regarding product quality and application.
- Provide competitive analysis work requested by product management.
- Share information and communicate effectively with senior R&D leadership and functional team members.
- Coordinate internal and external technical resources and industry professionals to facilitate the transfer and sharing of technical data and information.
- Participate in relevant external industry organizations to provide influence in the pavement preservation industry and collect and share information among key research professionals.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or similar concentration(s), or a MS/BS with equivalent experience.
- Expert understanding of asphalt emulsion technologies and broader experience in coatings and waterproofing technology.
- Extensive background knowledge and experience in project management, including stage-gate process.
- Comprehensive understanding and hands-on knowledge of analytical testing techniques (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.) and applications.
- Strong working knowledge of quality management systems such as SPC and/or Six Sigma, with fluency in Microsoft Office Suite and applicable software systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into an executive summary format.
- Willingness to travel approximately 20%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years' experience working for a mid-to-large company in a senior R&D leadership position with a demonstrated track record in generating revenue growth through innovative solutions.
- Overall 8+ year work history in the asphalt emulsion industry in a technical capacity.
- History of a commercially motivated approach to R&D with a willingness to think outside the box and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
- Thorough knowledge in the implementation of a stage-gate process working in a cross-functional team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead efforts in converting complex scientific concepts from the laboratory phase to manufacturing and ultimately to commercialization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate others while fostering a productive working environment.
