Job Summary

Discovery Behavioral Health is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Technician to join our team. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting patients through their treatment experience, ensuring their safety and well-being, and contributing to the overall success of our program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Orient new patients to the treatment program, its requirements, intent, and routine, and complete necessary assessments within 24 hours of admission.
  • Determine whether new patients have any special needs, communicate those needs to the treatment team, and assist patients in fulfilling those needs.
  • Monitor all patients through the treatment experience, keeping patients in line of sight in the milieu and checking on patients in bedrooms or other areas on a regular basis.
  • Contribute to the well-being of all patients by serving as a positive role model, demonstrating a professional and caring manner toward coworkers, patients, and guests, and treating all patients, guests, and coworkers respectfully and courteously.
  • Facilitate treatment plans set forth by therapists by providing day-to-day support to patients and helping patients engage in positive coping skills.
  • Understand the importance of structure by following house rules and group schedules each shift.
  • Run and engage patients in therapeutic groups, such as coping skills, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, life skills, and other groups as identified in the program schedule.
  • Document any behaviors that occur in the milieu in a thorough and appropriate manner, maintaining the confidential nature of all patient and program-related activities.
  • Answer telephones promptly and politely, transferring inquiries to therapists, milieu managers, or program directors as needed.
  • Maintain a clean environment by completing cleaning tasks on shifts worked and documenting.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor's degree or one year of experience working with mental health or adolescents
  • Must attend all training, education, and staff enrichment activities, including monthly online trainings, in-person trainings, and trainings as assigned
  • Must possess a current driver's license in good standing
  • Must be CPI and CPR/First Aid certified within 90 days of employment with Discovery
