Job Title: Day Center Security Officer

At Chief Seattle Club, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Day Center Security Officer to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our members and housing residents.

Job Summary:

The Day Center Security Officer will be responsible for enforcing policies and procedures, monitoring behaviors, and ensuring the overall safety of our community. This includes patrolling designated areas, responding to disruptive behavior, and providing behavioral management for individuals with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greets Day Center members and housing residents, building rapport and providing assistance as needed.
  • Monitors behaviors in and around Chief Seattle Club, enforcing policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment.
  • Contacts individuals loitering in the area, explaining and enforcing agency policy regarding loitering.
  • Patrols 2nd Ave S., Yesler, and Washington, including the alley, to ensure the safety of members, residents, and businesses.
  • Responds to disruptive behavior, including fights, drug dealing, and drug use.
  • Provides behavioral management for individuals with chemical dependency and/or mental health issues, setting limits, encouraging desired behaviors, and assigning consequences.
  • Writes timely and behaviorally descriptive Ban Reports when guests exhibit disruptive behavior.
  • Provides services, resources, and information to members, developing supportive relationships through motivational interviewing strategies and informal listening.
  • Works collaboratively with other Chief Seattle Club staff and traditional mental health teams to promote behavioral changes in guests.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary staff meetings to coordinate services for members.
  • Maintains written and computerized records, coordinating with evening residential staff for backup in challenging situations.
  • Utilizes the Seattle Police Department as needed, communicating with other team members to ensure awareness of ongoing issues.
  • Coordinates with Residential Staff & Day Center staff to implement and uphold temporary/permanent site bans.
  • Attends and participates in CSC trainings, staff meetings, and monthly CSC partners meeting.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proven experience in security or law enforcement, especially in environments involving vulnerable populations.
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle difficult situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR (certification preferred).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment:
  • Periodic exposure to cold, heat, and other environmental elements when conducting exterior patrols.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in a shelter environment with varied conditions.
  • Exposure to challenging situations, including dealing with individuals in crisis or under the influence of substances.
  • Most positions at CSC are exposed to members of the community who have experienced or are experiencing trauma in various forms, including domestic violence, sexual violence, homelessness, unemployment, financial hardship, etc.
