Principal Engineer for Autonomous System Assurance and Validation

Position Overview:

Hexagon Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer for Autonomous Site System Validation and Verification to enhance our innovative team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our autonomous site systems, which integrate various Hexagon products, are effectively upgraded and deployed to facilitate autonomous operations at the site level. Reporting to the Director of Engineering for By-Wire and Autonomous Systems, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight and timely execution of validation and verification (V&V) activities across diverse product development teams worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement validation and verification strategies to confirm that all Hexagon products within the autonomous site system operate as intended.
  • Create comprehensive validation and verification plans for features requiring interconnectivity among multiple products.
  • Engage in collaborative discussions with product V&V teams to align on a unified V&V strategy, ensuring clarity on team responsibilities, necessary resources, testing locations, and test types (e.g., HIL, SIL, On Vehicle, Engineering Bench).
  • Contribute to the formulation of V&V strategies and specific plans to meet customer requirements outlined in statements of work.
  • Support regulatory compliance and robustness testing strategies across product V&V teams.
  • Incorporate functional safety testing requirements into the overarching V&V strategy for the autonomous site system.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and communicate the progress of V&V execution plans to project management and leadership consistently.
  • Occasionally travel to various testing locations as required.
  • Influence the overall testing strategy by defining system test requirements.
  • Maintain proactive communication with the project team regarding validation status updates.
  • Develop and execute both manual and automated test scripts.
  • Conduct tests and provide recommendations for design or process improvements based on results.
  • Generate reports to assure that all critical components have undergone thorough testing and validation.
  • Maintain documentation for validation activities, including procedures and policies.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision to carry out validation studies.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and equipment needs for validation/testing.
  • Adapt to a dynamic and flexible work environment.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in an engineering-related field, particularly in product Verification and Validation.

Key Success Factors:

  • Proven experience in drafting detailed technical test plans based on documented requirements (Verification) and establishing test plans to ensure products are suitable for their intended purpose (Validation).
  • A creative and open-minded approach that promotes an environment conducive to idea sharing.
  • Strong business acumen and effective communication skills across all organizational levels and with customers.
  • Ability to develop repeatable processes and procedures.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience with V&V activities for autonomous site systems and vehicles.
  • Experience leading V&V teams focused on autonomous products.
  • Hands-on experience with V&V testing using data acquisition tools, CAN Bus Communication, MATLAB/Simulink, HIL Equipment, SIL Software, JIRA, and Agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with V&V activities for hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic motor actuation.
  • Experience in leading design initiatives for tools utilized in V&V activities.
