Job Summary:

The University of Kentucky is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Director of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the laboratory's operations, including budget development, staff management, and quality management system program maintenance. The Director will also work closely with various university units and external stakeholders to advance the laboratory's mission and goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of laboratory operational activities, including budget development and staff management
  • Maintenance of the quality management system program to preserve and ensure AAVLD accreditation
  • Collaboration with university units and external stakeholders to advance the laboratory's mission and goals
Requirements:
  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field of study (e.g., MS, MBA, MPH, PhD)
  • Minimum of 5 years of veterinary diagnostic laboratory or relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of directing/supervising experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialty board certification
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant field of study
  • Administrative experience, including direct management and recruiting of laboratory faculty and staff
  • Budget preparation and management experience
  • Regulatory policy experience
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with quality assurance/control systems
  • Broad knowledge of diagnostic laboratory disciplines
  • Knowledge of IT functionality for laboratory and university settings
