Job Title: Staff Systems Engineer, Bot Manufacturing

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Staff Systems Engineer to focus on defining manufacturing processes and advancing equipment development. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will optimize designs for manufacturability, accelerate assembly processes, and implement automation solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to take robot design from initial concept to full production.
  • Provide manufacturing insights during product definition to streamline design for manufacturing.
  • Drive the development of manufacturing lines from initial concept to full-scale production.
  • Spearhead the in-house development of innovative and intricate prototype manufacturing equipment in low volume lines.
  • Formulate assembly sequences and define critical quality parameters for efficient production.
  • Partner closely with the technician team to swiftly implement design modifications on the production line and expedite the robot's assembly.
  • Lead internal/external equipment suppliers to design production equipment in high volume lines.
  • Identify and troubleshoot a diverse range of challenging mechanical, electrical, software, control, data, and algorithmic issues.
  • Calculate equipment capacity and line balancing.
Requirements:
  • Mindset to apply first principles for problem solving.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Catia and AutoCAD preferred).
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, fastener selection, harness, etc).
  • Proficiency in electrical integration, quality matrix, testing, and trouble shooting.
  • Familiar with torque tools, automation equipment, control systems, and communication protocol.
  • Experience in transitioning products from prototype to production.
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.

Expected Compensation: $156,000 - $324,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
