Job Title: Staff Controls Engineer, Thermal Systems

At Ford Motor Company, we are seeking a highly skilled Staff Controls Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our thermal systems team, you will be responsible for designing and developing control algorithms for thermal management systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop control algorithms for thermal management systems, including climate control, battery, powertrain, and heat pump/refrigeration systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers to execute control strategies and ensure seamless customer experience.
  • Develop fault detection and reaction strategies to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Work closely with test and integration engineers to debug control algorithms at the bench and vehicle level.
  • Develop and continuously improve models to compare alternative control algorithms quantitatively across key metrics.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science, with evidence of exceptional ability, or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience in developing control algorithms and applying them to physical systems.
  • High proficiency in programming experience using Python or Embedded C/C++.
  • Strong foundational background in control theory, system dynamics, and model-based design.
  • Highly collaborative mindset and strong communication skills.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of linear systems, state-estimation/observers.
  • Familiarity with thermal control algorithms and experience implementing them on an embedded system.
  • Familiarity with refrigeration systems and HVAC systems.
