Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Control Officer to join our team at the City of Alexandria, LA. As an Animal Control Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing animal control ordinances, capturing and handling animals, and providing customer assistance to the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Capture and handle domestic animals, livestock, and wildlife using traps, catch poles, and other accepted means.
  • Enforce animal control ordinances by issuing warning notices, investigating complaints, and testifying in court.
  • Perform daily rounds to check animals in the shelter, ensuring satisfactory conditions, security, and proper enclosure.
  • Handle, prepare, and maintain paperwork necessary for the functions of this position.
  • Provide customer assistance to the visiting public, including showing animals for adoption and completing adoption papers.
  • Assist the supervisor in preparing and conducting educational programs for the public regarding animal control.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of experience in capturing, handling, and caring for animals and work involving a moderate degree of interaction with the public.
  • Valid driver's license.
