Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist Coach to join our team at Holmes Regional Medical Center. As a key member of our Surgical Services department, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing education programs for Surgical Technologists and Surgical Anesthesia Technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct assistance and supervision for staff development and training to ensure safety and patient-centered care.
  • Facilitate the process for staff in area of expertise to assume responsibility for developing and maintaining role competency.
  • Evaluate staff competency in area of expertise and provide timely feedback, assessing and addressing any gaps by designing evidence-based learning activities, and facilitating patient-focused learner-centric education.
  • Use principles of adult learning to employ a variety of teaching strategies that engage different types of learners on multiple levels.
  • Actively assist management team with ensuring staff competency and participation in continuing education.
  • Maintain an ongoing process of providing educational opportunities for professional growth that benefit surgical technologists and SATs at all stages of their professional development and serves as an educational resource.
  • Collaborate with department leaders in the selection and hiring of new and transferring associates.
  • Develop networks, collaborations, and partnerships to enhance the profession and serves as a resource.
  • Perform learning needs assessments to promote safe patient-centered care, standardize practice, and process changes.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community College, or School for Surgical Technology).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the Association of Surgical Technologists.
  • At least five (5) years of operating room experience with the following specialties: Trauma, Neurology, Vascular, Pulmonary, Spinal, Orthopedic, General Surgery, Urology, Gynecology, ENT, and Ophthalmic.
  • High initiative with ability to prioritize workload and effectively manage time.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with ability for continuous concentration on an activity.
  • Ability to assess and interpret data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to educate associates of various ages and levels of understanding.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with medical staff and patient care teams.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable with daily schedule and assigned tasks.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to stressful or life-threatening situations.
Competency Assessment/Skills Checklist

Must meet the CST/ST competency assessment/skills checklist requirements within three (3) months of hire and annually.
