Job Overview

POSITION:
Speech Language Pathologist

REPORTS TO:
Therapy Program Manager

DIVISION:
Rehabilitation Services

Objective:

To deliver and oversee Speech-Language Pathology services to residents, encompassing assessment, treatment, program development, and documentation, all while adhering to physician directives.


Qualifications:
  • Proficient in evaluating residents with communication and swallowing challenges.
  • Skilled in interpreting and conveying assessment outcomes.
  • Capable of creating and implementing effective treatment strategies.
  • Adept at maintaining accurate documentation of care in line with established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Judgment and Quality Assurance:
  • Deliver Speech-Language Pathology services to residents and initiate referrals as necessary, following departmental protocols.
  • Conduct regular screenings of residents to assess the need for intervention.
  • Evaluate residents to gather essential data for treatment planning and execution, including specialized assessments as required.
  • Monitor resident responses to interventions and adjust treatment plans as needed to meet established goals, in accordance with physician orders.

Communication:
  • Interpret and relay evaluation results to residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Engage in educational initiatives for residents, families, and staff.
  • Provide in-service training for care team members and community education.
  • Foster positive relationships with coworkers, residents, families, and facility staff.

Planning and Organization:
  • Coordinate individual resident schedules in collaboration with team members.
  • Develop treatment plans by identifying issues, setting short and long-term objectives, and outlining methods to achieve these goals.
  • Organize the workspace and ongoing tasks to minimize delays caused by interruptions.
  • Align treatment plans with residents, families, and other team members.

Documentation:
  • Record assessment results, treatment processes, follow-ups, and service terminations.
  • Document indirect and billable treatment times in accordance with departmental procedures.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort, including lifting and transferring residents as necessary. The employee must be capable of performing tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, bending, and using hands for manipulation of tools and equipment.


Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of the National Certification Examination for Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure.
