Job Summary

BronxWorks is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Worker/Counselor to join our Children and Youth Program team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and supportive environment for our youth, promoting their emotional and social development, and helping them achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement program goals and activities for youth, in collaboration with the Program Director or Coordinator.
  • Create a structured and child-centered environment that supports children's emotional and social development.
  • Supervise participants and provide classroom management and instruction.
  • Implement various recreational, educational, social, and team-building activities that promote physical fitness and health.
  • Provide homework assistance during the school year and maintain records of children's work.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan team projects and events, and participate in all fitness activities, including swimming and gym.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, training sessions, and First Aid, CPR, and RTE training.
  • Meet monthly with the Program Coordinator and/or Program Director for supervision and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of direct experience working with children under 13 years of age in a recreational, educational, and social environment (preferred).
  • Clearance through New York State Central Registry and New York State Office of Children and Family Services required.
  • Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development and whole language philosophy (preferred).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
