Job Summary

BronxWorks is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Worker/Counselor to join our Children and Youth Program. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and supportive environment for youth, promoting their emotional and social development, and helping them achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of program goals and activities for youth, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
  • Supervise participants, providing guidance and support to help them build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Implement various recreational, educational, and social activities, promoting teamwork and group bonding.
  • Provide classroom management and instruction, adapting to the needs of each child.
  • Act as a liaison with parents, maintaining open communication and building trust.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, staying informed about program developments and best practices.
  • Participate in training sessions, enhancing your skills and knowledge in youth development and counseling.
  • Meet with program coordinators and directors for supervision, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the program.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of experience working with children under 13 years of age, preferably in a recreational, educational, and social environment.
  • Clearance through New York State Central Registry and New York State Office of Children and Family Services required.
  • Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development and whole language philosophy preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
