GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the guidance of the Parks and Recreation Lead Worker, the Landscape Maintenance Specialist is responsible for executing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks within park environments and similar facilities, while also performing related duties as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role includes, but is not limited to:
- Routine upkeep of municipal parks and grounds, which encompasses turf management, flower and shrub care, tree maintenance, and overall cleanliness including trash collection and restroom sanitation.
- Preparation and repair of athletic fields to ensure readiness for play.
- Minor modifications to irrigation systems, including the installation and repair of irrigation lines and sprinkler heads.
- Operation of various hand and power tools such as shovels, rakes, mowers, tractors, and other equipment necessary for park maintenance.
- Conducting minor repairs on equipment and park facilities.
- Responding to directives from the lead worker and supervisors, including occasional assignments during weekends and holidays.
- Transporting city parade floats to designated locations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in park maintenance or related fields, with some knowledge of horticulture and landscape upkeep.
- Familiarity with plant species, tree care, pest management, and disease control.
- Understanding of maintenance and repair techniques applicable to park and grounds upkeep.
- Ability to foster effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to safely operate landscape maintenance equipment and tools.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with a problem-solving mindset, adaptable to changing conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions and physical demands including lifting up to 45 pounds. The role requires constant physical activity such as standing, kneeling, and operating machinery, as well as mental engagement in detail-oriented tasks.
