Job Title: Construction Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Construction Supervisor is responsible for managing the construction phase of multiple projects at the St. Louis Plant, a bulk pharmaceutical plant under the direction of a project manager. This role requires strong analytical, communication, project management, and interpersonal skills to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage construction phase of multiple projects at a bulk pharmaceutical plant under the direction of a project manager.
  • Assure latest drawings are delivered and used by the construction team/contractor.
  • Maintain detailed construction schedule.
  • Maintain design document list.
  • Maintain change order log.
  • Coordinate operating facility downtime needs with operations personnel.
  • Coordinate daily issue of hot work, line break, confined space entry, and other permits as needed.
  • Coordinate material deliveries to worksite as needed.
  • Maintain piping hydro testing and electrically classified conduit seal off logs.
  • Resolve minor construction issues with construction contractor.
  • Work with project manager and design personnel to resolve major issues.
  • Maintain a red-marked P&ID set of the construction in progress.
  • Active contributor during start-up and validation phases.
  • Audit construction contractors' safety programs against Mallinckrodt standards.
  • Participate in project development phase by documenting implementation plans.
  • Research construction alternatives and identify costs, benefits, and risk.
Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in Construction Technology or Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years project construction experience in Manufacturing Environment, Chemical, and/or Pharmaceutical Plant a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, proficient with MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and Word), familiarity with chemical plant equipment and operations, construction management skills, and knowledgeable of governmental requirements – FDA, cGMP, EPA, OSHA, etc.
  • OSHA 40 hr construction safety training.
Operational Relationships:

High degree of collaboration required on a regular on-going basis. Must be able to establish effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external personnel including engineers, operating and maintenance personnel, site and corporate leadership personnel, consultants, constructors, and equipment suppliers.

Scope of Position:

Construction Engineer supports the Plant Project Engineering Group. The Plant Project Engineering Group is charged with successful Capital planning, forecasting, and implementation of capital projects with a $30MM typical Budget/year, and is led by the Project Engineering Manager. The Project Engineering Manager reports to the Maintenance, Utilities, and Engineering Manager.

Working Conditions:

Most work will be performed in a manufacturing plant construction site setting. Travel to design firms or equipment vendors up to 10% of time may be required depending on project assignments and specific phases of projects.
