Established in 2004, Brilliant Corners is dedicated to providing innovative housing solutions and related services for individuals transitioning from or at risk of homelessness or institutional settings. We develop, own, and manage multi-family supportive housing and licensed residential care facilities. Additionally, we execute a wide range of scattered-site, individualized supportive housing, and clinical case management programs through collaborations with developmental services, homeless services, veterans' services, and healthcare sectors.

Department Overview

The Supportive Housing Management department oversees Brilliant Corners' portfolio of owned properties, which provide housing and services to various vulnerable populations. The majority of our portfolio consists of single-family homes that accommodate individuals with developmental disabilities who have previously been institutionalized. Other programs include multifamily or scattered-site housing for formerly homeless individuals and families, as well as those with developmental disabilities.

Role Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for delivering maintenance services to Brilliant Corners' expanding portfolio of single-family homes utilized as Care Homes for individuals with developmental disabilities and other housing models catering to vulnerable populations. This role collaborates closely with our Property Management Team, residents, partners, and vendors to ensure that each property is maintained in accordance with the standards set by Brilliant Corners and its funders. A flexible approach to job responsibilities, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to excellent customer service are essential for supporting a diverse population in need of specialized housing assistance. This position may require responding to after-hours emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute skilled and semi-skilled carpentry and maintenance tasks based on assignment, including HVAC, plumbing, appliance repair, electrical work, painting, framing, and preventive maintenance.
  • Address work order requests promptly and professionally, diagnosing issues and determining the most cost-effective repair methods.
  • Respond to emergency repair requests, providing either temporary or permanent solutions as necessary. Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and unscheduled repairs as required.
  • Monitor and report potential safety hazards or concerns, assessing the overall condition of properties and landscaping, and recommending repair projects to enhance property value and extend the lifespan of building systems and appliances.
  • Adhere to safety protocols during all maintenance activities. Inspect reported issues, perform repairs, and escalate complex problems to the Property Manager or designated vendor. Submit completed work orders, expense reports, and timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Maintain daily calendar updates to reflect activities throughout scheduled shifts.
  • Conduct annual property inspections.
  • Perform miscellaneous property maintenance and administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Professional Experience

  • HVAC certification is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

Candidates should possess the physical ability to perform tasks such as standing, bending, kneeling, and walking on uneven surfaces. They must be capable of using hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment and should be able to lift and carry moderate weights safely. Mental acuity for analytical reasoning and document interpretation is also necessary. Hazards: Exposure to traffic, dust, heights, and various materials is possible, with appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
