Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Nurse II to join our team at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. As a Staff Nurse II, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement patient care plans based on ongoing assessment and input from patients and families.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to promote effective patient care and share information.
  • Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advance practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Engage patients and families in developing educational plans and recognizing symptoms, establishing priorities, and responding to changing patient needs.
  • Delegate tasks to support personnel, provide feedback, and advocate for patients, families, and the nursing profession.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities, utilizing resources and tools, and integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care.
  • Take responsibility for continued professional growth and development, identifying learning needs, and initiating strategies to meet those needs.
  • Identify recurring clinical practice and unit problems, participate in problem-solving and resolution, and plan, present, and evaluate learning experiences for staff and students.
Requirements
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • One year of RN experience.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history required.
  • Minimum of 1.5 years Med-Surg and Psych experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on a Float team or agency work preferred.
