Key Responsibilities- Testing and Analysis
- Perform testing and analysis of biological specimens
- Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures
- Comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
- Maintenance and Quality Control
- Perform scheduled maintenance procedures
- Recognize equipment malfunctions and act according to established protocols
- Perform, record, and maintain accurate quality control records
- Knowledge Resource and Communication
- Answer inquiries regarding results and factors affecting results
- Act as a liaison and foster effective communication between laboratory and healthcare team, maintaining patient confidentiality
- Computer System and Training
- Perform routine inquiry and data input on the laboratory computer systems
- Ensure accuracy of information in the computer systems and take corrective actions
- Instruct new associates and students as required
- Education
- Doctoral, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
- Experience
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS
- Certification
- American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLS or Categorical eligible at time of hire with certification achieved within one year of hire
This position requires the ability to move continuously about the hospital and between workstations, and prolonged periods of standing. The individual must be able to tolerate exposure to disease-bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids. The ability to differentiate colors and move, lift, or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. is also required.
