Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Material Handler III to join our team at APL Logistics Americas. As a key member of our warehouse operations, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to our customers by ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate handling of customer products and materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Loading and Unloading
    • Load picked orders or pull and load according to established policies and procedures, completing all necessary paperwork, including Bill of Lading, Pick Report, Trailer Audit, and Lot Verification.
    • Unload, move, stack, and stage customer products and materials, both by hand and using forklift or other power equipment, while maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Pulling Orders
    • Accurately locate and load customer product onto/from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves according to established procedures and safety regulations.
    • Operate special equipment, such as a turret clamp and slip sheet equipment, as necessary.
    • Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials handled on daily production sheets.
    • Complete specialized order processing for loading, including stenciling, slip-sheeting, shrink wrapping, labeling, and consolidating as required on order.
  • Operating and Maintenance - Equipment and Grounds
    • Assign and verify trailers to appropriate dock and/or yard locations, ensuring trailers are locked to dock-lock and/or chocked wheels, following all safety rules and company policy.
    • Daily inspect and repair or make adjustments to tow-motor vehicles, following safety and maintenance instructions, and complete the tow-motor inspection sheet at the beginning of each shift.
    • Prepare trailers prior to loading product by inspecting and cleaning as needed to ensure product preservation.
    • Assist in building and grounds maintenance to ensure the facility is maintained in a clean, neat, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Reports
    • Complete activity and statistical reports as assigned by supervisor.
    • Assist in physical inventories to ensure facility and contents are secure.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Provide other services, such as sanitation requirement activities, assembling crates (boxes) to contain products, and/or moving loose materials to containers as directed by supervisor and/or team leader.
    Key Results
    • Apply the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model for operational efficiency to improve business processes, increase proficiency, and increase efficiency through waste elimination.
    • Apply the 5S Lean methodology to sustain a safe, clean, and orderly facility.
    • Meet and occasionally exceed standards set by the company for warehouse safety, food safety, sanitation, quality, productivity, and customer service.
    Qualifications
    • High School degree or equivalent required.
    • Two (2) years forklift/tow motor experience required, including fork lift certification preferred.
    • Knowledge of inventory control and general warehouse procedures.
    • Light data entry skills required.
    • Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
    • Ability to operate forklift - both sit down and stand up, tow motor, motorized and non-motorized pallet jack; clamp, reach, and slip sheet.
    • Ability to write legibly.
    • Must have basic math skills.
    • Ability to make decisions on customer acceptance based on past experience and fitness for use.
    • Must have attention to detail for continuous mental and visual attention.
    • Data entry skills.
    • Language skills - English.
    • Must be a Team Player.
    • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner.
