The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a highly skilled Solid Rocket Propulsion Engineer to join our Propulsion Engineering team.

About the Role

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing rocket propulsion systems, applying propulsion modeling techniques to conceptual and detailed design, and working with multidisciplinary teams to develop new rocket motor concepts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply physics-based concept design tools to synthesize booster stack and kill vehicle concepts.
  • Perform concept performance assessments at the weapon level, including trajectory simulation and optimization.
  • Work with system analysts for system level performance evaluations.
  • Lead detailed propulsion system assessments and participate in Integrated Product Teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or similar), with 10 years of experience in rocket propulsion systems design and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, thermochemistry, heat transfer, and structures.
  • Experience with MATLAB programming and aerospace vehicle design.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and meet eligibility requirements.
