Position Overview: This role provides an opportunity to leverage your expertise in protective relaying and control systems within distribution and high voltage substations.

Key Responsibilities: As a Senior Protection & Control Engineer, you will be tasked with the creation of protection and control schematics, as well as wiring diagrams, for various substation enhancements and modifications to meet client specifications.

Your duties will include:

  • Developing protective relaying philosophies, including the selection of relays, control systems, and communication equipment.
  • Implementing SCADA and telecommunication concepts, along with I/O assignments and connection diagrams.
  • Addressing complex challenges related to substation protection and control, including investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues.
  • Preparing designs from others for single line diagrams and substation relaying & metering diagrams.
  • Conducting independent reviews of work completed by peers.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and facilitating knowledge sharing within Sargent & Lundy’s systems and processes.

Travel Opportunities: There may be occasions to visit client and vendor offices for design evaluations and to project sites for construction coordination and design verification.

Work Arrangement: This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing three days in the office and two days of remote work flexibility.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a BSEE with a focus on power systems or controls from an ABET-accredited institution.

Essential Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in protection, control, and telecommunications for high voltage substations, encompassing design, installation, and coordination.
  • Familiarity with design methodologies, tools, and principles for producing technical plans and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of design codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Experience with various vendor protective relay equipment used in substation protection.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Valued Skills:

  • Experience with in-line, bus, and equipment protection, as well as control systems for breakers and transformers.
  • Familiarity with RTU and SCADA systems, telemetering, and communication technologies.
  • AutoCAD or MicroStation proficiency.
  • Experience in construction and commissioning.
  • Possession of a PE license.
