Job Summary

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Appeals Officer to join our team. As a Supervisory Appeals Officer, you will be responsible for leading a team of Appeals Officers in resolving tax disputes and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the development of program plans and assist in the administration of the office

• Coordinate with Counsel and Operating Division officials to review workflow, procedures, and training to ensure proper administration of the law

• Communicate and foster dialogue with subordinates, peers, and customers, and partners as appropriate with NTEU

• Lead team and coach individual employees in the accomplishment of team objectives and effective problem solving

• Mentor team members by providing timely assistance in their movement in processing cases and facilitating problem resolutions within the team and between other teams

• Maintain effective relationships with managers and employees at all levels of the Appeals organization, and with taxpayers or taxpayer representatives

• Interact with taxpayers and representatives to determine and meet customer expectations

• Hold conferences and negotiate issues to resolve tax disputes

• Conduct legal research and make reasoned judgments on matters of fact and law

• Evaluate the strength of the litigating position of contesting parties and negotiate case resolutions

• Facilitate the success of the team members in promoting customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and business results

Requirements

• 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level within the payband or GS grade in the normal line of progression in the Federal service

• Experience that demonstrated management/leadership experience such as applying management techniques, methods, theories, principles, or labor relations concepts for the accomplishment of all program objectives with combined technical and administrative oversight

• Experience applying regulations, other official guidance, and principles, including the latest procedures and techniques sufficient to oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the technical aspects of programs specific to the position being filled

• Experience applying communicative techniques to effectively and diplomatically interact with internal and external customers

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience

Additional Information

The salary range indicated in this announcement reflects the minimum locality pay up to maximum locality pay for all duty locations listed

This is a Non-Bargaining unit position

Tour of Duty: Day Shift, Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm

Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours, or telework may be available

Telework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework

Relocation expenses - No
