Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Government Affairs Manager to join our team at the Investment Company Institute (ICI). As a key member of our government affairs team, you will play a critical role in advancing policy goals for ICI and its member companies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor public policy developments and provide expert advice on financial services issues, federal legislation, and public policy matters affecting the Institute and its members.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of effective advocacy strategies for key ICI priorities.
  • Represent ICI and its member companies before Congress as needed.
  • Attend and summarize important Congressional hearings on behalf of the ICI government affairs team.
  • Prepare communications to share with members of ICI in consultation with the government affairs team.
  • Establish and maintain a political network within the Administration and on Capitol Hill, with a focus on the Senate Banking Committee and House Financial Services Committee.
  • Maintain excellent communications and working relationships with DC-based representatives of ICI member companies and work collaboratively to advance ICI's legislative agenda and secure its objectives.
  • Build and maintain informal relationships with staff of other organizations and with lobbyists sharing legislative interests in common with the Institute, and coordinate joint efforts as needed.
  • Participate in and assist with the planning and coordination of ICI conferences, committee meetings, and other members' meetings as required.
  • Assist in organizing political events such as fundraisers, and help ensure the effectiveness of the Institute's political programs, including ICI PAC.
  • Attend PAC events on behalf of ICI.
  • Develop and maintain close and highly effective working relationships with staff in other ICI departments through teamwork and regular collaboration.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience as a Congressional staffer, in a position within the Executive branch, in an advocacy-focused organization, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, along with attention to detail.
  • Some exposure to public policy issues impacting the asset management industry and/or financial services industry broadly is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of the legislative process, including an understanding of the roles and decision-making processes of the Executive Agencies, Senate, and House of Representatives.
  • Experience working with Members of Congress and their staffs, specifically on financial services issues.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and effectively with a team of lobbying, legal, research, and public communications professionals.
  • Ability to persuasively communicate complex concepts and programs at the highest level of government and business.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Advanced people skills, including ability to work in and be a part of an action-oriented work environment, a keen sense of protocol, and the ability to work comfortably and effectively with government officials.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
