Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Nurse Anesthetist is responsible for preparing and administering anesthetic solutions according to established protocols and procedures. This role requires close monitoring of the patient's condition during anesthesia and effective communication with the supervising physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer prescribed anesthetic solutions following specified methodologies.
  • Monitor and report on patient conditions throughout the anesthesia process.
  • Conduct pre- and post-anesthesia assessments and document findings in patient records.
Qualifications

Applicants must have graduated from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs and hold certification from the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. Candidates must also meet the insurance requirements set by the medical malpractice insurer.

The minimum educational requirement for new hires includes a master's degree or higher in Nurse Anesthesia, with a focus on current clinical competencies and proficiency in anesthesia equipment operation.

Professional Skills

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Current knowledge of anesthesia practices and safety protocols.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with surgical teams and nursing staff.
  • Understanding of universal precautions in patient care.
Licensure

Must be recognized as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or be eligible for licensure in the state of South Carolina. A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is also required.
