Position Overview

The California Highway Patrol is seeking a dedicated professional to join its Information Security Office. The selected candidate will act as the Department's Information Security Officer (ISO) and will be responsible for leading critical projects focused on the design, planning, development, documentation, and maintenance of the Department's Information Security Program.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will provide expert guidance in evaluating and recommending information security practices, policies, and methodologies for statewide operations. This role includes representing the Department in interactions with the Office of Information Security (OIS) within the California Department of Technology. The ITS-III will be recognized as an industry authority in their specialization, demonstrating extensive knowledge in shaping technological strategies and policies while exhibiting strong leadership capabilities.

The responsibilities include:

  • Directing sensitive and complex information security projects.
  • Coordinating the comprehensive development and review of technology recovery plans.
  • Conducting and documenting Department-wide risk assessments.
  • Designing and delivering information security awareness training for over 11,000 departmental employees annually.
  • Reporting security metrics utilizing methodologies established by the OIS.
  • Engaging in collaborative activities with the OIS to address security incidents and significant cybersecurity threats.

Work Environment

Core business hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During emergencies, the incumbent may be required to work extended hours and may occasionally need to travel for meetings, training, or conferences.

Special Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Background Investigation is required prior to hiring.
  • Applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) detailing their qualifications in a clear and concise manner.

The SOQ should address the following:

  1. Experience, education, and training in information technology, network/cloud infrastructure, and information security principles.
  2. Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining an organization's Information Security Program.
  3. Examples of responding to security incidents that impacted business operations or public perception.
