Power Electronics Controls Engineer - Expertise in High Voltage Systems

This role is a hybrid position that will be based at our headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define controller specifications based on system performance metrics and develop a strategic controls framework.
  • Assess new topologies for their controllability and alignment with system requirements.
  • Determine microcontroller specifications and lead component selection processes.
  • Create dynamic system models and adjust controller algorithms to maximize efficiency.
  • Convert algorithms into software applications and collaborate with firmware teams for integration.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and troubleshooting of controller implementations.
  • Utilize computer simulations (Matlab/Simulink, HiL, SiL) to explore new algorithms and modifications.
  • Assist in safety and compliance testing protocols.
  • Support ongoing product updates and engineering activities.
  • Engage in a multidisciplinary setting with electrical and mechanical engineers, production staff, and product managers.
  • Gather and document requirements through discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in power electronics system architecture and control algorithm development.
  • Proficient in embedded system design and programming (e.g., C language) for power systems and grid-tied controls.
  • Strong foundation in control theory and signal processing.
  • In-depth knowledge of drive systems and power converter controls.
  • Skilled in embedded systems and microcontroller peripherals such as ADC, PWM, and SPI.
  • Expertise in electrical/power electronic circuitry and control simulation using tools like Simulink/MATLAB.
  • Experience with sensor technologies and their implementation.
  • Proficient in utilizing laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes and EMC analyzers.
  • Expertise in gate drive design for MOSFET and IGBT technologies.
  • Familiarity with hardware schematics and PCB design, collaborating with hardware teams to establish software requirements.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
