About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Design Services team within Facilities Management at the University of Virginia. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading projects, designing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, and collaborating with a team of skilled professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead projects from conception to completion, developing and managing scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Design and prepare detailed documents for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems using Revit.
  • Collaborate with team members, provide mentorship, and assist in resolving complex engineering challenges.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure construction documents are complete, accurate, and compliant with building codes and University guidelines.
  • Oversee construction administration services, including submittal reviews, punch list inspections, and project closeout.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess project viability and make informed recommendations.
  • Adhere to and help develop departmental standards to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
  • Participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects, engineers, and University stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Seven years of mechanical design experience.
  • Proficiency in drafting mechanical systems (Revit preferred).
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
