Job Summary

Norfolk State University's Political Science Department is seeking an Administrative and Office Specialist to provide administrative support and clerical services to the department chair, faculty, and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support and clerical services to the department chair, faculty, and students as directed by the chair and/or his supervisors.
  • Manage the office, assist other employees, and respond to inquiries from outside visitors and stakeholders.
  • Transmit and receive communications between the department and its stakeholders, both within and outside the university.
  • Manage departmental records and perform other duties essential to ensuring the smooth functioning of the department.
Requirements
  • High school diploma and at least five years of experience in an administrative assistant capacity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, computer literacy, database management, and proficiency in desktop publishing.
  • Able to maintain a congenial relationship with students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Phone management, inventory, supervision of equipment maintenance, organization, and data storage skills.
