Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Property Clerk to join our team at the City of Rochester, New York. As a key member of our Police Property Management Unit, you will be responsible for supervising Property Clerks and Lot Attendants, overseeing the receipt, storage, and disposition of recovered or impounded property, and ensuring the accurate documentation of all transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the intake and storage of vehicles, property, cash, or contraband seized and remitted to City custody
  • Take periodic inventory of vehicles and property in storage areas
  • Review paperwork and documentation submitted by staff for completeness and accuracy
  • Supervise, assign, and monitor work of Property Clerks or Lot Attendants
  • Coordinate the receipt and transfer of evidence or seized property with officers, other Police personnel, and various law enforcement facilities
  • Supervise the securing of property in safe or specially designated areas
  • Release vehicles or property upon receipt and verification of proper authorization and documentation from Police, DA's, Court, bank, or insurance representatives
  • Oversee, monitor, and participate in the preparation of unclaimed property or vehicles in advance of public auctions and participate in auctions
  • Implement pre-determined work schedules for Property Clerks or Lot Attendants
  • Input and retrieve information using various computers, codes, and reference material
  • May testify in court cases
Requirements
  • A High School diploma or GED, PLUS 1 and 2 below:
  • Three years experience in inventory or production control; AND
  • One year experience in a direct public contact position, dealing with a diverse population
