Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Scientist III to join our team at Ahtna. As a key member of our environmental team, you will be responsible for conducting contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation field assessments safely and in accordance with work plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field assessments and sampling for contaminants and environmental parameters in a variety of media in accordance with standard operating procedures, guidance, and regulations.
  • Document field operations, including personnel onsite, equipment onsite, weather, environmental data, and operational data using photography, neat and legible handwritten fieldnotes and forms, and tablets.
  • Communicate with project managers using phones, email, and daily reports.
  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and job sites to verify safety and to ensure that project specifications are met.
  • Schedule and oversee subcontractors.
  • Assist or lead the preparation of proposals, planning documents, and reports.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences or a similarly related field.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access.
  • Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in other programs such as Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, GIS, databases, and environmental modeling programs.
  • ADEC-qualified environmental professional.
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER.
  • 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification.
  • CPR/1st Aid/AED Certified.
  • Experience working on projects with Federal clients.
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse range of projects and clients. The position will require frequent travel, including to remote locations, and may involve working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and other challenging conditions.

Ahtna offers a competitive salary range of $74,802-$91,633/year, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
