Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts animal husbandry and health management in compliance with research protocols and regulatory standards, including the Animal Welfare Act and NIH guidelines.
  • Assists in scientific procedures as per study requirements, ensuring meticulous documentation and equipment sanitation.

  • May mentor junior staff under the guidance of the Site Veterinarian or Team Leader and participate in site-specific committees.

Additional Duties:
  • Adheres to relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Maintains accurate records of animal care, preventive measures, and study-related documentation.
  • Provides comprehensive animal care, including feeding, hydration, and enrichment.
  • Ensures maintenance and repair of animal housing and related equipment.
  • Conducts thorough cleaning and sanitation of animal facilities and tools.
  • May oversee junior staff as directed by management.
  • Performs animal restraint and handling for routine and emergency procedures.
  • Identifies signs of illness or distress in animals and communicates findings to the Site Veterinarian or Team Leader.
  • Conducts daily assessments of animal health and welfare.
  • Administers treatments as directed by the Site Veterinarian.
  • Engages in scientific observations and assessments related to health outcomes.
  • May administer experimental treatments in line with study protocols.
  • Records scientific data accurately as per study guidelines.
  • Under supervision, may assist with sedation and euthanasia procedures as required.
  • Participates in biosecurity measures, including sanitation and environmental audits.
  • Assists in clinical sample collection as directed.
  • May aid in necropsies under the supervision of the Site Veterinarian.
Physical and Visual Demands:
  • Ability to work in diverse environmental conditions with a focus on biosecurity and attention to detail.
  • Requires physical stamina, including the capacity to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to read and see clearly, with allowance for prescription eyewear.
Temperament and Mental Requirements:
  • Maintains composure when working with animals.
  • Demonstrates a strong willingness to learn and adapt quickly.

Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

Experience:
