Job Summary

J & K Communications, Inc. is seeking an experienced Tower Climber/RF Field Technician to join our team. As a key member of our technical staff, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing communication equipment on towers and water tanks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation and Maintenance: Install and remove LMR, SCADA, and Microwave radio systems on free-standing towers and water tanks.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Possess knowledge of equipment, climbing, rigging, and safety procedures.
  • Electrical Knowledge: Have a basic working knowledge of Direct and Alternating electrical current.
  • Radio System Installation: Install and maintain radio systems, including base stations, repeaters, mobile radios, point-to-point, point-to-multipoint radios, and microwave radio systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and repair radio equipment, including diagnosing faults and replacing faulty components.
  • Networking and Routing: Possess knowledge of LAN, WAN, OSPF, and BGP networking and routing protocols.
  • Network Protocol Knowledge: Have knowledge of layer 2 and layer 3 network protocols, including Ethernet, ARP, IP, TCP, UDP, SNMP, IGMP, ICMP, and DHCP.
  • PLC/RTU Communications: Possess knowledge of PLC/RTU communications protocols.
  • Antenna System Installation: Diagnose, repair, and install antenna systems and RF filtering systems.
  • Electrical Panel Construction: Construct electrical panels based on blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • DC and AC Circuit Installation: Diagnose, repair, and install DC and AC circuits.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct preventative maintenance and routine inspections of radio equipment.
  • Problem Solving: Research and evaluate system problems and recommend solutions.
  • Project Coordination: Work with the sales team to assist in coordinating project installation/deployments.
  • Design and Specifications: Assist with the specifications and design of dispatch and remote communications installations.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergency call-outs.
Requirements
  • Experience: 3-5 years' experience in the industry or similar industry.
  • Hand Tool Operation: Basic working knowledge of hand tools and power tool operation.
  • Certifications: Ability to pass a background check and pre-hire drug screen/physical.
  • Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Travel: Ability to travel (overnights) when needed.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate professionally with co-workers and clients daily.
  • Teamwork: Positive, team-oriented attitude with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
