Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Public Transit Operator to join our team at the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating 29- to 60-foot buses on public transportation routes in the greater Richmond region.

About the Role

This role requires a strong focus on customer service and safety. You will be responsible for maintaining the safety of our customers and equipment by performing routine vehicle inspections and adhering to safety protocols. Additionally, you will communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to provide exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate buses on public transportation routes in the greater Richmond region.
  • Maintain the safety of our customers and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Collect fares from boarding passengers and respond to emergencies and incidents as needed.
Requirements
  • A high school education or equivalent GED.
  • A current Virginia Driver's License with a positive point balance or better.
  • Ability to successfully complete operator training program including training of bus routes, schedules, and vehicle emergency procedures within the prescribed time set forth by the Department of Transportation.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle under safest possible conditions and adapt to constantly changing operating conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and GRTC staff in a courteous and professional manner.
