Position Overview:
The Hospitalist Team at Cook Children's Health Care System is comprised of approximately 30 Physicians and 12 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. Our team collaborates to admit and manage pediatric patients facing a diverse array of medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Admit patients from the emergency department and facilitate direct transfers.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Interpret diagnostic tests and address inquiries from patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Participate in a structured 90-day onboarding program designed for new graduate APPs, providing essential support during the transition into practice.
- Engage in mentorship opportunities to enhance professional development.
- Utilize a self-scheduling system managed by the APP Supervisor, promoting flexibility and consistent support throughout your career.
- Manage night shifts that vary in duration based on full-time or part-time status.
Role of the NP/PA:
The Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant operates in a collaborative environment with physicians within the hospital. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting assessments and contributing to the care plan development for hospitalized patients in accordance with established protocols.
- Prescribing a range of treatment modalities to meet patient needs, including decisions regarding hospital admission or discharge.
- Collaborating with team members to adapt care plans and optimize patient length of stay based on individual needs.
Qualifications:
For Advanced Practice Registered Nurses:
- Master's Degree in Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
- A minimum of one year of pediatric nursing experience or in a related specialized field is strongly preferred.
For Physician Assistants:
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a related specialized area is strongly preferred.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
For Advanced Practice Registered Nurses:
- Current Texas professional registered nurse license.
- Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license.
- Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
- Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
For Physician Assistants:
- Current Texas professional physician assistant license.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C).
- Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
