Clinical Nurse Specialist

Position Type: Full Time (40 hours/week)
Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000 - Annual
OVERVIEW OF ROLE: Under the guidance of the Nursing Manager and collaborating physicians, this role primarily involves administering medications, overseeing the Central Pharmacy operations, addressing client inquiries related to health concerns, supporting psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners, and evaluating clients' physical health issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Administer and dispense a variety of medications to clients based on specific medical orders from authorized physicians. Monitor behavior and document vital signs and reactions.
2. Support agency physicians by observing and documenting client behavior, condition, and medication responses.
3. Manage the inventory, documentation, and storage of prescribed medications and medical supplies.
4. Provide first aid and emergency care as required.
5. In the absence of a physician, evaluate clients in crisis regarding medication and health concerns and take necessary actions.
6. Assist clients needing medication supervision by implementing appropriate measures.
7. Ensure compliance with all guidelines related to Central Pharmacy operations.
8. Complete all required documentation within 48 hours of initiation in line with agency policies.
9. Stay informed of all relevant policies and procedures and operate in accordance with these standards.
10. Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as the standards set by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and professional ethical guidelines.
11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. In-depth knowledge of mental health issues in adults and children, including psychotropic medications and their side effects.
2. Familiarity with current diagnostic standards.
3. Ability to build and maintain effective clinical relationships.
4. Must meet agency requirements for background checks as applicable.
EDUCATIONAL AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: A nursing degree from an accredited institution that qualifies for Registered Nurse status in the State of Ohio. All relevant licenses and certifications for Registered Nurses in Ohio are required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Previous experience in mental health nursing is preferred.
