Position Overview:

SENIOR CREDIT ANALYST - CORPORATE BANKING

What is the Role?
This position plays a crucial role in the loan management cycle by delivering expert credit analysis and underwriting support to the Commercial Banking division. The incumbent will assess potential loan transactions and evaluate the creditworthiness of clients. Additionally, the role involves validating credit assessments conducted by Credit Analysts and offering insights and recommendations concerning proposed credit opportunities and associated risks. It is essential to ensure that all due diligence and background checks are comprehensive before submitting the Credit Risk Recommendation ("CRR").

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine loan applications and financial documentation, including third-party reports (e.g., real estate appraisals, environmental assessments, asset-based lending examinations, inventory evaluations, etc.); assess and establish credit structures and terms; prepare CRR in accordance with Bank standards, policies, and procedures; identify sources and uses of funds; analyze industry data, competitive elements, historical performance, projected outcomes, risks, and mitigating factors. Ensure that the CRR includes a well-supported recommendation or decision, with accurate risk ratings and validated data and analytics.
  • Participate in client meetings at the request of the Relationship Manager, Team Leader, or Credit Manager to facilitate the delivery of credit products and assist in resolving issues. Engage directly with borrowers for additional information and clarification regarding loan requests or financial materials.
  • Offer balanced and appropriate credit guidance to the Relationship Manager, Team Leader, and Manager, collaborating to determine suitable credit strategies.
  • Propose credit alternatives and innovative structuring solutions that align with profitability and portfolio risk standards. Draft credit approval memoranda.
  • Provide feedback to the Relationship Manager, Team Leader, and Manager when loan pricing does not accurately reflect the inherent risks of the transaction. Adjust loans and/or lines of credit as necessary, taking responsibility for minimizing potential losses for the Bank.
  • Conduct quarterly reporting on Problem Loans for Criticized/Classified credits, including financial assessments of clients' conditions and monitoring of covenants and conditions. Take a proactive stance in developing and implementing Action Plans, escalating potential credit concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Play a primary role in the early identification of problem loans and ensure timely and accurate adjustments in loan grades. Monitor and respond to overdue accounts in collaboration with the Relationship Manager.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Bank lending policies and regulations. Consult with the Credit Manager and relevant Bank personnel regarding new and existing lending requirements and regulations.
  • May oversee loan documentation processes, collaborating with legal teams or external counsel to secure accurate documentation that protects the Bank's interests in credit relationships. Regularly review collateral to mitigate credit exposure.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in underwriting large and moderately complex corporate credit.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a banking or financial services environment.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Requires extensive technical knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of corporate banking credit principles, financial concepts, and the ability to apply creativity in resolving complex credit challenges.
  • Effective communication skills in both verbal and written forms.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Capability to take responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently to restructure loans and/or lines of credit as needed.

Compensation: Starting base salary: $111,408 - $189,738 per year. Compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonuses and/or commissions.
