About the Role

The Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Engineer plays a crucial role in establishing, executing, and supporting the Maritime Cybersecurity OT and Information Technology (IT) strategy and program initiatives for vessels and terminals. This position serves as a maritime cyber risk subject matter expert, advising leaders across various business lines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee cybersecurity initiatives for OT systems associated with shipboard and shoreside environments, ensuring compliance with maritime cybersecurity guidelines, regulations, and corporate information security standards.
  • Influence the maritime industry by collaborating with external organizations to enhance and promote cybersecurity practices.
  • Manage cybersecurity remediation and enhancement programs to mitigate cyber risks to vessel and terminal operations.
  • Define and monitor remediation plans to ensure timely mitigation of OT vulnerabilities and defects.
  • Recommend infrastructure improvements to Operations and Information Security teams.
  • Collaborate with Information Security, IT, and business units to implement controls for identified system weaknesses.
  • Engage in external information sharing forums to keep our maritime cybersecurity program aligned with emerging industry practices.
  • Evaluate innovative technologies and practices to advance the maritime cybersecurity program.
  • Develop secure maritime solutions tailored to Matson's environment to address complex challenges.
  • Document specifications, designs (architecture), development processes, and requirements traceability.
  • Generate and report performance metrics that illustrate positive business impacts and risk reduction.
  • Direct various engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and software, to translate requirements into secure operational environments.
  • Support secure configuration of maritime OT and IT systems.
  • Implement critical configuration changes on company systems in strict adherence to change management policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of security and architectural designs for vessel and terminal systems.

Required Skills:
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and execute remediation activities based on risk to the overall shipboard or shoreside enterprise.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks/projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of management and subject matter experts regarding security solutions and organizational changes.
  • Good judgment in selecting appropriate communication methods.
  • Adept at translating complex system information into understandable terms for Matson business entities and executive leadership.
  • Ability to foster cooperation among technical resources with differing opinions to achieve security solutions.
Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience as an engineer supporting maritime product and solution implementation, or a degree in Mechanical Engineering with two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Relevant certifications focusing on OT/ICS/SCADA cybersecurity are highly desirable, including CMCP, ISA Certified Automation Professional, or Certified Control Systems Technician.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to fulfill responsibilities.
