Job Summary

MaineHealth is seeking a skilled Patient Access Apprentice to support the Admitting Department. This role is the first step in a three-tiered career path within Patient Access, offering opportunities for growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and families, ensuring a positive experience throughout their healthcare journey.
  • Accurately and efficiently register patients, verify insurance, and validate medical necessity.
  • Collect and process payments, and obtain patient signatures on consent and assignment forms.
  • Assist with accommodations for patients with special needs, and ensure a smooth flow of clinical, administrative, and clerical tasks.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing healthcare delivery and technology, and adapt to new protocols and accuracy standards.

Requirements

  • High school graduate preferred.
  • Previous clerical healthcare experience and customer service skills are essential.
  • Must complete a formal medical terminology course and customer service training within 1 year after hire.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance plans, and medical office procedures is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with patients and colleagues in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers for online data entry, and typing, faxing, and copier skills.
