Patient Access Coordinator

Job Summary
MaineHealth is seeking a skilled Patient Access Apprentice to join their team. This role is the initial contact for patients at Memorial Hospital, requiring exceptional customer service skills in all interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete and accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and medical necessity validation
- Identify and collect amounts due from patients, entering orders, and providing an efficient flow of clinical, administrative, and clerical tasks
- Obtain patient signatures on consent and assignment forms and applicable insurance denial notices
- Assist with and arrange accommodations for patients with special needs
Requirements
- High school graduate preferred
- Previous clerical healthcare experience preferred, with customer service experience required
- Must complete a formal medical terminology course and customer service training within 1 year after hire
- Knowledge of insurance plans and their requirements, medical office procedures, and insurance requirements
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with patients and others in a courteous, tactful, and effective manner
- A strong command of the English language, with the ability to speak and write clearly
