Position Overview

The Occupational Therapist will typically be part of the leadership team, responsible for the formulation and execution of essential services that are crucial for the efficient functioning of educational institutions. This role involves providing a variety of services and analyzing intricate issues that are part of the policy framework.

To create a position at range 5, the educational institution or cluster of institutions must possess the necessary diversity and complexity. Management of a significant school or district initiative, project, or targeted strategy may indicate the breadth of management responsibilities.

An education support class role aids in the educational services provided to students but must not encompass teaching duties as defined in the relevant education legislation. Supervision of students may only be required when it is an integral part of the employee's role or involves overseeing students individually or in small groups in controlled settings, where the teacher retains clear responsibility for the students.

Key Responsibilities

Positions at this level are generally part of the leadership team responsible for the development and delivery of key services essential for the effective operation of a school. Responsibilities may include:

  • Contributing to, developing, and implementing key policy initiatives within the educational institution.
  • Managing the delivery of budgetary, administrative, and operational objectives, involving collaboration with school staff and leadership.
  • Serving as a specialist in their professional area and being relied upon for expert advice.
  • Ensuring a child-safe environment in accordance with established Child Safe Standards.
  • Providing training and development for others in the adaptation and application of professional concepts related to health and wellbeing.

Sunshine Special Developmental School (SDS) offers a unique and innovative learning environment for students aged 5-18 years with moderate to severe Intellectual Disabilities. The school is organized around a Primary and Secondary Learning Centre Model and is home to a diverse student body.
