Key Responsibilities
- Oversees and monitors inmate activities; ensures the safety of inmates and the public; conducts regular attendance checks of inmates.
- Conducts searches of inmates, equipment, and transport vehicles to eliminate contraband.
- Administers medication and first aid to inmates; addresses inmate requests for medical assistance.
- Facilitates the transportation of inmates to various assignments.
- Ensures adherence to departmental regulations and protocols by inmates.
- Keeps detailed records of all incidents, accidents, and daily activities.
- Processes the intake and release of inmates from the correctional facility; completes necessary documentation.
- Supervises the routine cleaning and upkeep of tools and transport vehicles.
- Performs additional related duties as required.
- Familiarity with contemporary correctional practices and procedures.
- Understanding of first aid and CPR methodologies.
- Proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Ability to manage and supervise effectively.
Completion of specialized training in the relevant field, alongside basic educational qualifications typically associated with a high school diploma. Adequate experience to grasp fundamental principles related to the primary responsibilities of the role. Must possess or be able to obtain certification from the Georgia Department of Corrections. A valid driver's license is also required.
Physical Requirements
The role primarily involves standing or walking. The employee frequently lifts light objects, occasionally handles heavier items, and may use tools or equipment that require a high level of dexterity. The following physical capabilities are necessary:
- Balancing, Crouching, Feeling, Grasping, Handling, Hearing, Kneeling, Lifting, Manual Dexterity, among others.
The Columbus Consolidated Government provides a defined benefit retirement plan for eligible employees. The current vesting period is ten years, with a pension contribution rate of 8% of gross salary.
