Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Inspector to join our team at the City of Memphis. As a key member of our housing rehabilitation and rebuild programs, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct construction inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
  • Assist with design reviews for our housing programs and provide recommendations for invoice approvals.
  • Direct activities of employees and/or consultants engaged in inspecting the construction of rehabilitated and newly constructed single and multi-family units.
  • Recommend corrective action when problems are detected and ensure program compliance.
  • Provide recommendations for quality assurance and control measures to ensure the highest standards of construction.
  • Coordinate with managers to establish production and customer service standards.
  • Travel to various work sites throughout the city to ensure compliance, evaluate activities, and work requirements with crews.
  • Monitor programmatic activities to ensure expectations are met and coordinate the preparation of various documents, including monthly and annual reports.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years' professional experience in housing rehabilitation or rebuild programs.
  • Must maintain a Home Inspection Certification as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.
  • Lead Paint or Weatherization Certification preferred.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office environment except during on-site visits to observe operations. Requires travel to different locations throughout the city for work site inspections. May be exposed to outside weather conditions.
