Summit Design and Engineering Services is looking for Transportation Construction Inspectors ranging from Trainees to Level IV to join our Construction Engineering Inspection team for highway construction projects across North Carolina.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in inspecting various roadway and structure construction activities while performing calculations and computations under supervision.
- Conduct materials sampling and testing.
- Collect weigh tickets for materials and perform various roadway tests to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Oversee and execute inspection tasks on both complex and routine highway projects.
- Maintain daily records of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates.
- Measure completed work items in the field and calculate contract pay quantities.
- Interpret plans and blueprints.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, with the ability to apply formulas.
- Proficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox, and/or OneDrive.
- Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and make decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to perform necessary testing and maintain detailed reports.
- Effective communication skills with agency and contractor personnel as well as the general public.
- Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans along with contract specifications.
- Physical ability to navigate rough terrain and stand for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid Driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Level II Technicians: Minimum four years of relevant experience; capable of performing duties independently and referencing materials for inspection requirements.
- Level III Technicians: Minimum five years of relevant experience; capable of performing duties independently and referencing materials for inspection requirements.
- Level IV Technicians: Minimum seven years of relevant experience; may act as a Lead Project Inspector overseeing project activities and liaising with contractors and NCDOT while supervising lower-level technicians.
