Job Summary

The Employment Eligibility and I-9 Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the University's compliance with federal regulations. This position is responsible for designing and delivering training to HR professionals, monitoring and reconciling data discrepancies across various systems, and developing processes to ensure timely and accurate employment eligibility verifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of I-9 employment eligibility verifications for UMass Amherst employees.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to provide in-person customer service, create training materials, and design processes to ensure compliance.
  • Train and advise HR representatives and employees on employment eligibility requirements, software, and documentation.
  • Monitor I-9 case status and conduct internal audits to resolve compliance issues and mitigate liability.
  • Identify and resolve employment eligibility data discrepancies across various databases.
  • Generate reports and provide data on employment eligibility and compliance, making recommendations for process improvements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, assess priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform accurate, detail-oriented work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on providing exceptional customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of employment eligibility requirements and experience with E-Verify, I-9, and employment visa processes.
  • Experience with Tracker I-9, e-Verify, PeopleSoft, and similar software.
  • Ability to create and deliver training, design processes, and implement change.
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
Work Environment

This is a typical office environment with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
