Hotel General Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hotel General Manager to lead our team at Staybridge Suites in Coralville. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and profitable operation of the hotel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reinforce standards for personnel administration and performance in compliance with KHC policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and manage the hotel's overall financial performance, including revenue management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash handling, and purchasing.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets in conjunction with subordinate managers and Director of Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with franchise agreements through regular inspections and accurate reporting.
  • Monitor the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and orientation of all employees.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with safety training and programs.
  • Control funds, authorize expenditures, and assist in planning budgets for departments.
  • Ensure each employee understands and is offered employee benefits during initial eligibility window or open enrollment periods.
  • Hold weekly staff meetings to ensure regular and consistent communication.
  • Schedule and oversee the Manager on Duty (MOD) system.
  • Monitor and report changes in the local market and competitive trends that affect hotel performance.
  • Approve purchases of supplies and equipment within KHC purchasing guidelines.
  • Inspect guests' rooms, public access areas, and outside grounds for cleanliness and appearance.
  • Answer patrons' complaints and resolve problems quickly to ensure guest satisfaction.
Requirements:
  • Associates Degree (AA) and three to four years of experience or Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university and two years of experience.
  • Ability to read, develop, analyze, and interpret complex documents and financial reports.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures and provide guidance on implementation.
  • Ability to read, write, and implement safety programs for employees and guests.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, via telephone, and in writing.
Working Environment:

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and driving conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.
