Job Summary

The Employment Eligibility and I-9 Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the University's compliance with federal regulations. This position is responsible for designing and delivering training to HR professionals, monitoring and reconciling data discrepancies, and developing employment eligibility verification and hiring/onboarding processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of I-9 employment eligibility verifications for UMass Amherst employees.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to ensure timely and accurate completion of employment eligibility verifications, providing in-person customer service and creating effective training materials.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure compliance with federal regulations, including creating materials to document and disseminate processes and training.
  • Train and advise HR representatives and employees on employment eligibility requirements, eligibility software, and I-9 acceptable documentation.
  • Monitor I-9 case status in the campus I-9 system and federal e-Verify system daily, conducting internal audits to resolve compliance issues and mitigate campus liability.
  • Identify and resolve employment eligibility data discrepancies across various databases, generating reports and providing data on employment eligibility and compliance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or Associate's Degree with at least one year of related experience or a High School Diploma or GED with more than three (3) years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, assess work priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a dedication to providing excellent customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of employment eligibility requirements and prior experience with E-Verify, I-9, and employment Visa processes.
  • Experience with Tracker I-9, e-Verify, PeopleSoft, Sprinttax, or similar software.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver training, design/redesign processes, and implement process change.
Work Environment

This is a typical office environment with a standard work schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
