Program Overview

The Ambulatory Nurse Residency Program at UW Health is a 12-month program designed to support new graduate nurses in transitioning into practice. The program focuses on providing a comprehensive orientation, mentoring, and clinical expertise to ensure a smooth transition into the role of an Ambulatory Nurse.

Key Program Components

- Comprehensive orientation program
- Mentoring by experienced preceptors and clinical nurse specialists
- Participation in twice-monthly nurse resident classes with clinical experts
- Opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team during all stages of patient care

Responsibilities

- Telephone triage
- Telehealth opportunities
- Medication administration
- Treatments
- Testing
- Patient/family education
- Assuring a plan of care for high volumes of patients

Education and Experience

- Minimum – Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN or BAN) or Master Degree in Nursing (MSN) completed within the previous 12 months
- Preferred – Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) completed within the previous 12 months

Licenses and Certifications

- Minimum – Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Wisconsin
- Basic Life Support/CPR
